Abstract:Interface reaction of TiC_p-reinforced Ti-matrix composites has been studied. Degradation reaction of TiC and C atoms diffusing into matrix results in nonstoichiometric interface reaction layer forming around TiC_p. Electron diffraction patterns prove that the interface layers are clean without other reaction products. The layers possess reciprocal character, and the interface width varies with process conditions.
